I learned some of my earliest corporate lessons from my father long before I ever held a job. I didn’t know my father was teaching me secrets that would later shape how I navigate the workplace.
Every evening, he would return from work, unbutton his shirt and while helping me with my assignments, he’d start sharing stories…little tales from his day at the office with my mum. He never called them lessons but that’s exactly what they were. Through his stories about colleagues, supervisors/managers and the politics that played out in the office, he was handing down wisdom wrapped in everyday experiences.
Those evenings became my first classroom in corporate dynamics. Without even realising it I was learning how people operate, how influence moves and why understanding your environment is just as important as doing your job well.
Now that you’ve gotten your foot in the door and secured the job, I will be sharing some of that age old wisdom (a blend of my father’s insights) and my own experiences as a woman finding her balance in this ever evolving corporate world. These are lessons that have guided me, grounded me and continued to keep me steady even now.
Until I write again.
Still winging it,
